[the grey] Somewhere along the way the world settled for being boring. I'd walk through shops and marketplaces and everything felt the same, and after a while I started to wonder if I was the only one who noticed it.
[the pool] Creativity felt like a pool of water, slowly getting evaporated by the sun. Nobody comes and takes it from you, it just gets less and less while everything around you stays sensible.
[the ideas] I knew I had something to say, I just didn't know what shape it would take. Then two ideas arrived that made no sense to anyone but me. A cat's face on a shoe, and a handful of pink glitter. I felt I had to do something with them.
[the no] When I showed this to those around me, I was met with scorn and confusion. 'Are you ok?' was the response widely received...
[the exchange] 'You never wanted a regular type of life?'
'What the fuck is that, barbecues and ball games?'
'Yeah.'
'No. I don't want that.'
[the edge] The truth is it started from a moment of desperation. I was on the edge, and this felt like my final act, the last thing I felt I could do. So every bit of energy went into it, and that momentum has never really left.

Blending in is a design flaw. We refuse to do it, and we build the footwear that makes sure you never have to.
Style is identity, not decoration. What you wear should say something, feel personal, and look like you.
If it isn't fun, why are we doing it? Fashion forgot to enjoy itself somewhere around 2009. We didn't.

I used to care so much about what you thought. I pulled the band aid off, I went out wearing what I wanted... Nothing happened, no monster came and ate me, I didn't melt. In fact I felt overjoyed, I felt positive, I smiled more, I probably made people's days, how about that as a turn of events. I'm pretty sure this pigeon was also checking me out.

Who are KOI?
KOI is an independent British fashion brand born in Manchester in 2016, designing alternative footwear and clothing for people who treat getting dressed as self-expression, not camouflage. We came up through subculture: cosplay floors, gig pits, gaming, music and art. That's not a marketing angle, it's just where our people are.
We don't chase trends. We reinterpret them, or ignore them entirely and make something better.
What shoes are KOI known for?
Chunky boots. Chunky trainers. Platform heels. Mary Janes. Plus the apparel to match. Bold, collectable designs on silhouettes built for real-world wear, so the drama survives the daily commute. If your feed ever stopped you mid-scroll, there's a decent chance it was one of ours.
Where are KOI products made?
Every KOI collection is designed in the United Kingdom, at our Manchester HQ. Production happens with our manufacturing partners in China, who are required to meet ethical and responsible production standards. Designed up north, made with care, worn everywhere.
Is KOI good quality? Our quality promise
Creative doesn't mean fragile. Materials, structure and finish get obsessed over so the shoes last through actual wear, not just photos. And we put our money where our mouth is: every pair is backed by our 6-month warranty, worn or not.
Can KOI shoes be worn every day? Our comfort promise
